Outdoor Banner boosts retail business

How to use an Outdoor Banner

An Outdoor Banner is a only temporary promotional tool. But it does its job really, really well.

Let me explain:

You notice an Outdoor Banner because it is:
- Flapping in the wind
- Something that has not been there before

An Outdoor Banner by its very construction is meant to be temporary, and that alone makes it something that we are conditioned to notice.

We do notice even slight changes in places and things to which we are accustomed - this is the reason that confectionery manufacturers continually slightly change the colours of their products' wrapping so that we are subconciously drawn to something that is slightly different from what we had expected. And that's why Google's regular changing embellishments of their logo to reflect that season's events is a master stroke in marketing.

In the same way, when your storefont has a slight change by way of a new Outdoor Banner, people's eyes will be drawn to it.

(Should you also regularly change your storefront signwriting? No, because this is supposed to be a constant, an address to which people come, and the longer your storefont remains the same, the more people who are familiar with your store.)

But don't be confused between the attention that is caused by your Outdoor Banner and the action that it evokes - for example, we may see and be fascinated by a car crash, yet not instantly go and get involved in the proceedings.

But I'm getting ahead of myself here, because I want to ensure we call know 'how' to use an Outdoor Banner.

An Outdoor Banner needs to be used:
1. As a temporary promotion (max. 1 month except in special circumstances)
2. As an addition to an existing storefont (not placed some metres down the street)
3. To present a compelling 'action message'.

Why not place your Outdoor Banner some way from your store - surely that would catch the eye of people looking in a different direction?

Well, an OutDoor Banner is an addition to your store, not a duplication, and it's therefore pointless to be separating your two public displays (storefont and Outdoor Banner).

Your storefont signwriting and your Outdoor Banner have two different purposes, and if you can effectively use them in separate locations this means you have incorrectly designed either one of them, or both.

Similarly, it's sensible to hang your banner where it does not significantly hide your existing storefront signwriting.

So now that we have understood that an Outdoor Banner is a promotional tool, let's think about how it may be designed for maximum effect...
